Goromonzi Based Academy Cries For Help

RED STAR football in the rural citing of Goromonzi is crying out for the public and private stakeholders to chip in donations or any form of sponsorship as they struggle to operate, Post On Sunday reports.

RED STAR academy is one in a few academies attempting to nurture talent based in the rural areas, a fit that is only appreciated in urban areas.

While talking to this publication owner and director of RED STAR, Highson Mutero highlighted on how the ailing yet ambitious academy came to be.

“This institute is located in Lyndhurst Farm in Goromonzi and was a brain child by founder Highson Mutero. It’s eruption came in 2013 when I saw a lot of untapped talents around the area which I incorporated to develop, nature and exopose it to other better academies.”

The Goromonzi based football academy is operated by Mr Mutero himself and Lovemore Shonhiwa who chips in here and there.

“We are in need of soccer balls, soccer boots and a good training ground. We also seek for better transport and proper football management expertise since our academy is attracting huge numbers from Under 13 to 18,” added Mutero.

RED STAR focuses on Under 13, 15 and 18 and it has since taken part in tournament’s like Epworth Development League Under ZIFA, Mwalimu Kumbula Tournament and KSM Tournament.

RED STAR has also played against avid academies like Black Aces, Prince Edward and Cars Fc.

Mutero believes that with much help channeled on the academy change will be brought on both the players and the community at large.

“It’s an advantage for the both the community and the young players because it’s rare and odd to have running academies in such peri urban or rural settings. We hope to find financial help or resource help soon,” added Mutero.
