Professor Smelly Dube, a renowned philanthropist and businesswoman, has continued her charitable endeavors with recent donations to the Midlands police and a rescued baby in Shurugwi. Her history of supporting needy children, widows, and various community projects has made a significant impact on the lives of many.
The donation to the police included a truckload of essential materials like stationery, fuel, and office accessories, which will aid in their crime-fighting efforts. The handover ceremony was held at Rivervalley Group of Companies in Gweru, attended by senior police officers and Professor Dube, representing Group Chairman Eng Dr. Mncedisi Dube. The donation is expected to enhance the police’s efficiency in producing dockets, ultimately contributing to the reduction of crime in the region.
Professor Dube’s kindness also extended to a rescued baby girl in Shurugwi, who was found dumped in a bush near Donga Business Centre. The baby, wrapped in a black jacket and placed in a white plastic bag, was discovered by police officers, who immediately took her to Zvamabande Hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, the baby was found to be in good health and was later transferred to Shurugwi District Hospital.
Upon learning of the baby’s predicament, Professor Dube was moved to action. She visited the hospital and donated essential items like clothes, food, and cash to ensure the baby’s comfort and well-being. Her generosity will continue through her support of orphanage projects, ensuring the baby’s future care.
This act of kindness is not an isolated incident, as Professor Dube has a history of philanthropy. Previously, she funded a rolling scholarship program for needy children from child-headed families and supported numerous widows. Her company, River Valley Properties, has also donated to various community projects, including a donation of bed linen and other items to Shurugwi District Hospital last year.
Professor Dube’s philanthropic work has not gone unnoticed, as she has received several awards for her contributions. Early this year, she was awarded the Hall of Fame Woman of the Year 2024 Global Excellence award at the Leaders Without Borders Economic Development Summit and International Honours business summit in the United Kingdom. This prestigious award recognizes individuals making a significant impact globally across various fields.
Additionally, Professor Dube received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 13th African Achievers’ Awards held at the House of Lords in London. This award highlights the achievements and impacts of Africans who have gone the extra mile to transform their communities and beyond.
Professor Dube’s dedication to philanthropy and business has made her a role model, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps. Her contributions have improved the lives of many, and her legacy will continue to have a positive impact on the community for years to come.
