In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, the United States launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, June 22, 2025. President Donald Trump confirmed the attacks, stating that the strikes were “very successful” and aimed at destroying Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity.
According to reports, six Northrop B-2 Spirit bombers dropped 12 GBU-57A/B MOP bombs on the Fordow facility, while two MOPs were dropped on Natanz. Additionally, submarines fired 30 Tomahawk missiles at Natanz and Isfahan. The US military confirmed its involvement in the attacks, with Trump announcing that the strikes targeted the Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan sites, with Fordow being the primary target.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran confirmed the attacks, but insisted that its nuclear program will not be stopped. “We enjoy a strategic partnership and we always consult with each other and coordinate our positions,” said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, referring to Russia, as he announced plans to meet with President Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also launched a barrage of 40 missiles at Israel, causing significant damage and injuries.
The international community has expressed concern over the escalation, with experts questioning the Israeli strategy of triggering a conflict to draw in the US. “This action represents a hazardous gamble with perhaps catastrophic consequences,” said Dr. Elias Thorne, a Middle East policy expert. The United Nations and US allies in Europe have also warned against attacking nuclear facilities, citing potential threats to nuclear safety and radiation leaks.
In a statement, Trump declared, “We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space.” He warned that there would be additional strikes if Tehran retaliated against US forces, stating, “There will either be peace or there will be tragedy for Iran”.
The airstrikes have significantly heightened tensions in the region, with Iran reserving its right to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people. As the situation continues to unfold, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Earlier, Iran issued a defiant response to President Trump’s threats, stating that it “does not negotiate under duress” and will meet any threats with “reciprocal measures”. This comes after Trump warned Iran of severe consequences, saying any retaliation would be met with “force far greater than what was witnessed tonight”. The US has launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, prompting Iran to vow to defend its sovereignty and interests.
Russia Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, warned US, any interference would, “radically destabilize the entire situation,” warned foreign minister, as the war between Israel and Iran continues to escalate.
