Government launched Phase III of the Sexual, Reproductive, and Health Rights, HIV&AIDS, and Governance Project, shifting focus towards sustainability.
Addressing parliamentarians recently in Mt Hampden, UNFPA Country Representative, Mrs. Miranda Tabifor, emphasized the need for innovative solutions.
“The challenges of sexual and reproductive health, compounded by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, require country-driven, sustainable solutions.” Said Mrs Tabifor.
Zimbabwe has made progress, raising the marriage age to 18 and establishing the National AIDS Trust Fund.
However, declining external resources necessitate long-term planning.
“The HIV Response Sustainability Roadmap will ensure Zimbabwe’s continued progress,” Mrs. Tabifor explained.
Key components include: Strengthening governance structures, enhancing community engagement, promoting health education
Parliamentarians pledged support, ensuring policy reforms align with Zimbabwe’s Constitution.
“We will champion sustainable funding mechanisms,” said Hon. Chenjerai Kangausaru, Parliamentarian.
The UN Country Team reaffirmed commitment to supporting governments efforts.
