Marital Feud Escalates Into Gun Drama in Rusape

A suspected love triangle has landed a Rusape woman in court after an alleged assault and a confrontation involving her husband’s firearm…

A bitter marital dispute allegedly fuelled by accusations of infidelity took a dangerous turn in Rusape on Friday when a 45-year-old woman allegedly confronted another woman at her workplace, assaulted her and later arrived carrying her husband’s pistol, according to the State.

The incident has brought into sharp focus the potentially devastating consequences of marital breakdown, jealousy and allegations of infidelity at a time when communities continue to grapple with cases of domestic violence and other crimes arising from intimate relationships.

Kadange Nyepanai, a Rusape businesswoman, was remanded in custody on Saturday October 10 2026, after appearing before a Rusape magistrate facing two charges, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The State alleges that Nyepanai, angered by what she believed is an affair between her husband, Luke Mahoko, and 31-year-old Delisa Maponde, went to Maponde’s workplace at Medicare Surgery in central Rusape on October 9, 2026.

What began as a confrontation over an alleged extramarital relationship allegedly escalated into violence before a firearm entered the equation, according to court papers.

Maponde, who works as a nurse aide at Medicare Surgery, allegedly became the target of an assault in which Nyepanai used clenched fists and open hands. The State alleges that Maponde sustained bruising to her right ear and left eye during the confrontation, although the injuries were recorded in the State’s outline, the court was told that Maponde was not medically examined following the alleged assault.

But the matter did not end with the alleged physical confrontation.

According to the State’s case, Nyepanai later unlocked a family wardrobe at her home and removed a Llama pistol belonging to her husband. The firearm, identified in the court papers by its serial number, was allegedly loaded with three rounds of ammunition. The State alleges that the pistol was registered in Mahoko’s name for the protection of cash in transit.

Nyepanai allegedly placed the firearm inside her handbag before returning to Medicare Surgery.

It was at that point, according to the State, that what had started as a domestic dispute assumed a potentially far more serious dimension. The prosecution alleges that Nyepanai charged towards Maponde intending to assault her while carrying the firearm.

Before the weapon could be used, however, a woman identified in the State papers as Clara Chawabvunza allegedly took the handbag containing the pistol.

The firearm was subsequently handed over to the police, leading to Nyepanai’s arrest.

The pistol has been recovered and is being held as an exhibit, with the State indicating that it may be produced in court during the proceedings.

Nyepanai is now facing an assault charge under Section 89(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. The second charge arises from the alleged possession of the firearm without a firearm certificate, in contravention of Section 4(b) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 10:09. The State alleges that Nyepanai unlawfully possessed the pistol at Medicare Surgery without the requisite firearm certificate.

Importantly, there is no allegation in the State’s outline that a shot was fired or that Maponde was shot. The firearm was allegedly intercepted before the confrontation could escalate further.

At the centre of the case is an alleged marital dispute involving Nyepanai, her husband Mahoko and Maponde.

According to the State’s outline, Nyepanai went to Medicare Surgery after accusing Maponde of having an extramarital relationship with Mahoko, which she alleges has evidence of pictures of all nature which those romantically involved can sahre.stances surrounding the case, is that she had been subjected to what she regarded as open provocation.

She allegedly believes that Maponde had been openly provoking her over the relationship with Mahoko, while her husband failed to adequately protect either woman from the escalating dispute.

According to witnesses, Mahoko showed no remorse or sympathy, in-fact, accused the wife, Nyepanai of emotionally getting involved in his love affairs.

few weeks ago, it was Commissioner Muduva’s death, police officer was shot in another marital dispute and still under investigation is the Prison officer’s husband who died in an inferno before the divorce case was heard.

The Rusape case comes against a broader backdrop of concern over domestic disputes, relationship breakdowns, jealousy and allegations of infidelity that can sometimes escalate into physical violence and, in the most tragic cases, killings and suicide.
