With increasing number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa of the 3rd wave from the Indian variant, cases are also increasing in Zimbabwe.
Following the temporary closure of Kwekwe after a returnee tested and died of covid, the spread of the Indian variant seem to becoming too fast with Rusape, in Makoni District recording 9 cases and 3 deaths in two weeks.
District Medical Officer, Lincoln Nyafesha confirmed with Post On Sunday that 9 cases have been recorded so far.
With the covid WHO regulations being floated around the country, people up and about doing their businesses trying to recover from the previous lockdown, a message is sent.
With no sign of getting closer to another lockdown due to its effects on the economy citizens are urged to continue with the prescribed way of living, masking up, sanitizing and exercising social distance.
Nyafesa told this publication that people should not take this virus for granted, as it is not proven if the 3 died of covid.
“Tests are still under way but with the 9 recorded cases, contact tracing and symptoms reported, the 3 probably died of covid” said Nyafesa.
With the national challenge of vaccines in Zimbabwe, statistics could not be gathered to how many Rusape residents had received their 1st and 2nd jabs, Nyafesa however highlighted that the uptake was increasing by day.
