Rusape police have apologized for failing the residents once again after 5 armed robbers went on a stealing spree.
Post On Sunday has it that 5 armed robbers attempted to break-in at Roman Catholic church St Simon Stock in Rusape, just 500m away from the police station as they approached and claimed to be from Econet-wireless and wanted to fix the booster which is in the church yard.
Father at the church, (name withheld) went at the gate and did not open and immediately contacted the police.
The five failed their attempt and proceeded to another victim, Joseph Mano, where they stole cash USD $1500, Cellphones and clothes then later went to another victim working at Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, (name withheld) who went at the gate with a torch to identify the visitors.
This publication received information that the victim’s pregnant wife was physically assaulted by the robbers in an attempt to assist the husband in checking who was knocking at the gate and assist with another torch.
The robbers failed and could not complete their mission due to noise and ran away.
Police has since contacted the father at the church, apologizing for not responding swiftly to the situation due to lack of resources and manpower.
Of late now, cases of robbery and theft have risen in Zimbabwe with Harare and Bulawayo being on top of the list while Masvingo and Beitbridge recording those attacking travelers in the highway stealing vehicles, money and other valuables.
