Vaccinate First, ZIFA Tells Division One On Football Resumption

By Branton Matondo

The return of local division one football has once again been held back by ZIFA as premier league heads for a start soon.

In an official statement, ZIFA General Secretary Xolisani Gwesela said that ZIFA has not yet passed lower tier resumption but called for all prospective teams to abide to the set targets meant to officiate a possible comeback.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform all lower leagues that their resumption of football has not been authorized. Only Premier League League football have been authorized so far.

“We remind lower leagues to provide detailed written submissions regarding their preparedness and plans thereof to guarantee and allow for safe resumption of football.”

Priority is being elevated to issues of Covid 19 safety. Some of the teams from all four tiers (Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central) have already commenced training while some teams are yet to organize.

ZIFA successfully held a meeting with Minister of Youths, Sports, Arts and Recreation Hon. Dr Kristy Coventry concerning the issue of football resumption in the lower leagues.
Hon Minister requested for the same priority of vaccination before anything else.

“We have requested that government approves on the condition that clubs in lower leagues vaccinate players and officials before being allowed to resume.” added Gwesela.
