Masvingo Magistrate courts came to a shocking standstill after husband to the accused Daisy Makoni attempted to take his life following a 7 year thumping jail term of his wife for two accounts of attempted murder and malicious damage of property.
The alleged culprit identified as Daisy Makoni (49) of Mafukidze village under Chief Munyikwa , Basera in Gutu stood in front of Magistrate Patience Madondo on charges of attempted murder and malicious damage of property.
The state under Liberty Hove revealed that Makoni carried out arson on the individuals.
The statement read, “On 23 december 2019 Osten Mafukidze(13) Godknows Mubango (9) and Clifford Dube (7) of Mafukidze village under Chief Munyikwa, Basera in Gutu went to sleep around around 21:00hrs in a bedroom thatched house after they had finished eating super at Munozorava homestead.
At around 23:00hrs Makoni proceeded to the thatched hut where the three complainants were sleeping and set the hut on fire.
Mafukidze discovered that the hut was on fire and managed to drag Mubango and Dube out of the hut. He then managed to awake Munozorava but nothing could be done to stop the fire.”
The hut according to the court is owned by Siyengwe Munozorava (42), concubine to Makoni’s husband.
Makoni through his lawyer, Sandra Silver of Legal Aid directorate pleaded with the court for a linear sentence since there was no loss of life when the hut was set on fire.
Drama heated up just after Magistrate Patience Madondo slapped Makoni with a 7 year jail of which two of those were suspended on the basis of good behavior.
The husband turned rampage on law enforcement officers claiming and shouting that he will compensate his wife’s crime with a beast.
Police managed to apprehend the man and took him in for counselling.
