BY SPORTS REPORTER
NEWLY promoted Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) Division 1 side, Rusitu Tigers FC, which lost 2-1 to Rusape based Midway FC says that it played well in their first encounter in the top division league.
Rusitu Tigers FC played at home at Chirombo Stadium, Kopa (Rusitu) yesterday (9 April 2023).
Speaking to this publication, a club official, Oliver Mambamba, indicated that despite their loss, the club played well.
“We played so well despite that we lost the encounter. We were aiming for maximum points but that didn’t materialise. To be frank, our boys played well and we are encouraging them to remain focused in the remaining matches.
“We are in no position of blaming match officials for the loss. They handled our match fairly. It was just that yesterday wasn’t our day,” he said.
Rusitu Tigers concealed a goal when Midway’s Tymon Machope found the back of the net just 2 minutes into play. The hosts equalised when Eversons Dhliwayo scored in the 19th minute. It was Shayne Kanjekete of Midway who took away the home team’s smiles when he made it two for Midway in the 78th minute.
