Benza Makes History In Manicaland

The name Innocent Dambudzo Benza is one which charges a lot of baffling football statistics and memories. He has broken records and surprised many with his current football career but the 52 year old recently added another record to his name.

The owner of Herentals Group of College’s isĀ  now the first football player plying his trade in a local league to clinch a parliamentary seat.

This comes after Benza was duly elected as Mutasa Central Constituency Member of Parliament after registering a huge win over Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) running candidate Edison Chekecheke.

The oldest football player to player a cup match in the world bagged 13 717 votes while his rivarl registered 9781 votes.

Though he now has another political task at hand Innocent Dambudzo Benza told media that he will not hang his boots but will also continue to play for his PSL side Herentals.

In other National Assembly results from Manicaland former Mutare City Mayor Brian James was duly elected as Mutare Central Member of Parliament. The CCC big wing registered a big win to crush parly prospects for Gold Class coaches owner Esau Mupfumi.

ZANU PF stronghold Misheck Mugadza bagged Mutasa South Constituency National Assembly seat. It was a tightly contested electoral run as Mugadza registered 11608 while his immediate challenge Regai Tsunga registered 10383 votes.

Muwombi Joseph (Zanu PF) declared the winner in Makoni North. His immediate challenge from the yellow wing registered 6257 votes while Muwombi bagged 12 306 votes.

Declared National Assembly results indicate that the mass party has a bigger chunk of seats in the National Assembly.
