Two sungura music greats, Liversy Matamba and Taruvinga “Sugar Sugar” Manjokota, are back in the spotlight. Matamba, known for his hit song “Hazvina Mhosva,” has released a new track titled “Muvaropafadze,” featuring L.C Mudondo. The seven-minute track was produced by Tichaona Chacha at Sungano Records.
In an interview with Post On Sunday, Matamba expressed his excitement about his return to the music scene. “I have produced a five-track album, which includes the newly released single. I am thrilled with the quality engineering done by producer Tichaona Chacha on this project. I want my fans to know that the original sound they love from me has been maintained in my new offering.”
Matamba, who celebrated his 54th birthday this year, has released 15 albums and wishes to resume live performances. He is carrying on the legacy of his uncle, Artwell Matamba of the Hurungwe Sounds.
Meanwhile, Sugar Sugar (Taruvinga Manjokota) is working on a new album. In an interview, he assured his fans that he is still active in the music industry. “I am currently in the studio, and my new music will be released soon. I want to correct the misconception that I have retired and am living in rural Buhera. While Buhera is my home, and I visit frequently, I am still committed to my music career.”
Sugar Sugar appealed to promoters for support, citing the challenges he faces without their help. “I urge promoters to consider me for contracts and transportation assistance, as this would greatly aid my music endeavors.”
Fans can expect an exciting new song from Sugar Sugar titled “Kutendeuka kwaMairosi,” which he promises will be filled with his signature “sugar.”
