By Admore Mbonda

Mazowe, Mashonaland Central— The nation mourns the loss of former Information, Posts and Telecommunications Minister and ZANU PF National Consultative Assembly member Cde Chenhamo Chimutengwende, who passed away at the age of 81. His death was confirmed on Thursday by ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Chairman Cde Kazembe Kazembe, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“I heard the news of Cde Chimutengwende’s passing from a family member. It is a big loss for the people of Mazowe, the province, and the entire nation,” Cde Kazembe said. He characterized Cde Chimutengwende as a unifying figure in Mazowe, noting, “We considered him a pillar, a uniting force, who did great work for both the province and the nation.”

Cde Chimutengwende’s political career was marked by significant contributions to the development of Mazowe and beyond. He served as the Mashonaland Central provincial chairman of ZANU PF and held several cabinet positions over his long career. Cde Kazembe pointed out that Cde Chimutengwende was likely the longest-serving legislator in the province, having dedicated over two decades to public service, including time as a senator.

“His legacy includes numerous development projects, from building schools to spearheading the tarring of roads, particularly the key route from Glendale to Bare,” Cde Kazembe remarked.

In recognition of his contributions, ZANU PF Mashonaland Central province has initiated the process for posthumous recognition of the late Cde Chimutengwende. He also served as Deputy President of the Senate, a Member of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), and led the Zimbabwe delegation to the PAP.

Cde Chimutengwende was an accomplished academic, holding a Master’s degree in Social Science and a PhD from the University of Bradford in the UK. His passing has left a void in the community he served so diligently.

Details regarding his burial arrangements will be announced in due course, as family and friends prepare to honor his memory and contributions to the nation.
