Chen Chimutengwende, a renowned Zimbabwean politician, has been conferred national hero status by President Mnangagwa, a testament to his remarkable contributions to the country before and after independence. Chimutengwende’s passing at 81 has left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe, particularly in Mashonaland Central and Mazowe, where he dedicated 20 years of service to the government.
A distinguished academic, Chimutengwende held a Master’s degree in Social Science and a PhD from the University of Bradford in the UK. His impressive educational background and extensive experience in politics made him a respected figure in Zimbabwean politics.
Chimutengwende’s legacy extends beyond his academic and political achievements. He was a key player in Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence and development, earning him recognition and respect from his peers. Former Minister Saviour Kasukuwere paid tribute to Chimutengwende, saying, “You played your part in the struggle and development of your country,” a fitting eulogy for a man who dedicated his life to serving Zimbabwe.
Chimutengwende’s national hero status is a well-deserved honor, acknowledging his tireless efforts to shape Zimbabwe’s history. His contributions will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Zimbabweans.
