Gweru-Tragedy struck in Gweru, Zimbabwe, when a young trainee pilot, Air Lieutenant Nesbert Tambudza, lost his life in a plane crash. The incident occurred near Guinea Fowl, where Tambudza was undergoing solo navigation training in a Karakorum-8 (K-8) jet trainer aircraft.
According to Commander in Chief, General PV Sibanda, the crash resulted in no civilian casualties or damage to property on the ground. Sibanda expressed his deepest condolences to Tambudza’s family, relatives, friends, and colleagues, describing the young pilot as having “immense potential”.
Tambudza was part of a jet flying conversion training course at Number 2 Squadron, Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base in Gweru. He was in the final stages of his training on the K-8 jet when the accident occurred.
The aircraft crashed approximately 5 kilometers east of Guinea Fowl, resulting in extensive damage. A Board of Inquiry has been established to investigate the cause of the accident.
Funeral arrangements for Air Lieutenant Tambudza will be announced soon. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) and the nation mourn the loss of this talented young pilot.
