Gym maestro appeals for support

Kadoma based fitness and gym maestro Matapeta Silas Chitsvuka is appealing for help to turn around a newly commissioned project that will empower the youths.

He started bodybuilding in 1974 in the Kadoma youth centre and became a junior Mr Rhodesia champion in 1976.

Since then he never looked back again.

He competed in all the competitions the then Mr Rhodesia, Mr Zimbabwe Rhodesia and finally the now independent Zimbabwe, Mr Zimbabwe title.

Realizing his immense contribution to the town, the Kadoma council provided him with rooms to use as a gym, in 2004.

He accommodated most of the local youths recruiting them and turning them into sports enthusiasts.

The gym operates under a holy name, THE SAMSONS GYM, meaning the gym for Big Strong Sober Samsons, training only in their sober states and making it a hobby, while adhering to drug free training.

“I enjoyed watching my trainees and gym members competing in national events and promoting the name of my city,” he said.

“Finally this year, the Kadoma council noticed my passion in bodybuilding and fitness, and my immense contribution in taking the youth out of the streets.

“The Kadoma town Council allocated me land measuring 100 meters by 100 meters to erect a gym of my dreams.

“It has always been my desire to establish a state of the art facility, a sports academy that will take sports, bodybuilding and health to an unprecedented level

“This academy will accommodate all ages, all gender( without discrimination) in physical exercises, bodybuilding, athletics and indoor activities,” he said.

“Help put Kadoma on the map. The slogan is “FITNESS AND HEALTH FOR ALL”. I am a pensioner now, though physically strong, I lack the financial muscle to realize this dream.

“I am however aware that I am not an island and that out there, are some well wishers willing to assist in this noble cause.
