Gweru Suburb Gets New Lease on Life, River Valley’s Infrastructure Revamp

By Own Correspondent

In a bid to transform the Gweru suburb of Woodlands Phase one, River Valley Properties has launched a comprehensive road and drainage rehabilitation program. The initiative is a much-needed intervention, aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges that have plagued the residential area.

At the helm of this project is Group CEO Ambassador Prof Smelly Dube, who has emphasized the company’s commitment to working closely with the community to prevent future problems. Prof Dube was on the ground, overseeing the rehabilitation works in person, and assured residents that River Valley would do everything in its power to ensure the area’s infrastructure was improved.

The rehabilitation program involves clearing sewer lines of blockages, ensuring roads are passable, and installing advanced drainage systems. River Valley has also taken steps to provide alternative water sources for sewer reticulation, including a big tank of water at a strategic location.

Residents have expressed their gratitude for the timely intervention, acknowledging that the services provided are typically the responsibility of the local authority. One resident thanked Prof Dube and her company, saying, “These services that River Valley has rendered like sewer and road rehabilitation must ordinarily be the responsibility of our local authority, but the private company has shown empathy by using its time and resources to assist us.”

This is not the first time River Valley Properties has come to the aid of the Woodlands Phase one community. In January 2020, the company partnered with Vungu RDC on a road and drainage rehabilitation program to minimize the effects of flash floods that hit the suburb. Prof Dube explained that the company could not ignore the plight of beneficiaries of their housing scheme and felt a sense of corporate social responsibility to assist them in times of need.

The company’s efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of Gweru residents. By taking proactive steps to address infrastructure challenges, River Valley Properties is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of the community it serves. As the rehabilitation program continues, residents can look forward to enjoying improved living conditions and a better quality of life.
