Chillmaster, a Zimbabwean musician, was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of 50-year-old pedestrian Custon Charambira.
The accident occurred on New Chitungwiza Road, opposite Energy Park Service station, when Chillmaster’s Honda Shuttle hit Charambira, who was walking on the roadside. Charambira sustained broken legs and head injuries and died on the spot.
After the accident, Chillmaster expressed remorse and apologized for his actions. He stated that he would cooperate fully with authorities and support the victim’s family. During the trial, his lawyers resisted the prosecution’s request to produce his driver’s license, asking that the matter be resolved in trial.
The Zimdancehall chanter Gift Hombarume popularly known as Chillmaster has escaped jail with a US$200 fine and community service following his conviction after the accident.
Chillmaster faced culpable homicide charges and driving without a driver’s license. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The musician was sentenced to a wholly suspended jail term. He was fined $200 for driving without a license and given 420 hours of community service at Stoneridge Primary School for the culpable homicide charge. One year of his two-year sentence was suspended on condition of good behavior, while the remaining 22 months were suspended pending completion of community service.
Chillmaster will perform community service as part of his sentence, and his legal team highlighted his support for the deceased’s family, including standing with them during the funeral.
