Fastjet Introduces Extra Morning Flight on Johannesburg–Harare Route

By Evans Jona

MUTARE, ZIMBABWE – Fastjet Zimbabwe has announced the addition of a new early morning flight on the busy Johannesburg–Harare route, in response to growing demand from business travelers.

The service, which begins on 29 September 2025, will operate daily except Saturdays using the airline’s Embraer ERJ145 aircraft. Flight FN8220 will depart Johannesburg at 06:55 AM and land in Harare at 08:40 AM, while the return leg, Flight FN8337, will leave Harare at 7:00 PM and arrive in Johannesburg at 8:50 PM.

Fastjet spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana made the announcement during the Sanganai Hlanganani Kumbanayi Tourism Expo in Mutare on Thursday, saying aviation remains a key driver of economic growth.

“Aviation is a catalyst for economic development. We believe our morning service will contribute to the smooth movement of businesspeople, therefore strengthening the trade relations between Johannesburg and Harare,” Ndawana said.

The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Vivian Ruwuya, said the decision was based on feedback from travelers seeking more flexible schedules.

“In the past months, we have witnessed a growing demand from businesspeople for an early morning departure from Johannesburg to Harare. Our fastjet flight FN8220 now allows our customers a full business day in Harare,” she said, adding that the new flight is already open for booking.

Fastjet Zimbabwe, which launched operations in 2015, now connects Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls and runs regional flights to Johannesburg, Lusaka, and Mbombela (Kruger). The airline has transported more than 4 million passengers and has received multiple international awards, including recognition from the World Travel Awards and Skytrax World Airline Awards.

The airline emphasized that it offers flexible booking options, generous free baggage allowances, and multiple payment channels, with the lowest fares available through its website, www.fastjet.com.

Fastjet Zimbabwe is also registered under the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), confirming compliance with global aviation safety and operational standards.
