Gweru– An Air Force of Zimbabwe jet fighter plane crash landed in Gweru on Tuesday afternoon killing two passengers on board.
The incident occurred around 2.30 pm at Dabuka Somabula area, 8km out of the city of Gweru.
The plane is believed to had developed a technical fault before crash landing, Post on Sunday has learnt.
The two pilots who were on board died as they were said to be on routine training from the Josaiah Tungamirai Airbase. According to an eye witnesses who saw the accident said, the plane went down in an emergency landing.
“We saw the plane, then it immediately turned after that we heard a crashing sound and we saw it was that military jet. two journalists came few minutes later as well as persons in military uniforms, but we did not get close to the accident for security reasons” they said
Effort to reach the Josiah Tungamirai Air Base Commander, Group Captain Esswein Masuku for comment were fruitless as he couldn’t be reached on his mobile phone.
Information obtained at the moment revealed that the deceased were identified as Mkhululi Dube who was the instructor and one female student who was only identified as Silungile Sweswe
