Gweru- A grade 4 learner at Chikumbiro Primary School in Mkoba is in dire need of financial assistance to undergo a heart surgery in India.
Parsley Sithole who resides in Mkoba Village 5 is suffering from a heart problem which has caused her stomach to swell and currently having problems in walking and sleeping.
One senior teacher at the School, ( name withheld), told Post On Sunday that, the minor’s condition had greatly affected her schooling as she last attended school in October 2020
“I can confirm we have a child here with us and her name is Parsley Sithole and she stays with her mother . she has a heart problem and she is currently having difficulties in walking as her stomach is swollen. she can’t eat , or sleep properly as she is always in pain.
“when her mother reported the case to us she said the problem started while she was young,but a certain point it stopped and only to discover it recently. Doctors have since referred the child to India for an operation which is estimated at a cost of US$15 000 to US$20 000.” she said
She added that as a school they were working on modalities to try raise funds for the learner as soon as possible before the condition goes to extreme.
“As a school we sat and saw it fit to start an initiative to raise funds towards Parsley’s medical care and more deliberations will be done on Tuesday after Easter holidays. Her mother cannot carry the burden alone as she is widow, hence she is pleading to well-wishers.
“On Thursday 01 April 2021 the mother came with the girl to report the matter to the school authorities and she was carrying her , we noticed that Presely was having breathing difficulties, her mom further said the child was not breathing and sleeping properly even at home due to pain
” we are appealing to well-wishers so that the girl gets treatment as soon as possible” she added
Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) Gweru Chapter Chairperson ,Locadia Mavhudzi said as a women movement, the chapter pledges its support to embark on a resource mobilization exercise.
“As WcoZ we are appealing to the public to assist this girl. We are going to move around and knock other stakeholders’ doors so that we try mobilise assistance for the young girl. we will also talk to the family so that we conduct a mass appeal.
“we believe in the potential of young girls whom if we give due suppport can transform the status of women in society. A child belongs not just to her immediate family but to the society hence we call for oneness.”Mavhudzi added.
