Masvingo – Province children’s vaccination program against typhoid was declared a success by the Provincial Nursing Officer, Mrs. Cresensia Maphosa.
Maphosa told Post On Sunday that despite negative messages which circulated on social media weeks ago, against the vaccine program almost every child was vaccinated in Masvingo thus it was a successful program.
“The Province recorded 78% of children who received the vaccine, using the 2020 statistics of population which were a bit higher than that of 2021” said Maphosa.
“The only challenge we faced then, was that of social media misinformation, parents thought the vaccine was that of Covid-19 as alleged in the social media but it was for typhoid. While there is misconception of the Covid-19 vaccine I also urge parents to get their jabs and encourage their children as well” added Maphosa.
Adding to that, Maphosa told this publication that she hasn’t received any report of side effects of the vaccine in the province.
Bikita district had the highest turn up of up to 95 percent and Mwenezi still recording the lowest with 68 percent. The program started in and May and expected to end on the 30th day of June 2021
