COMESA has today responded positively to the invitation by the Zambian Government to participate in the on coming general elections expected to be held in August.
In a press release that Post On Sunday is in possession of, COMESA said the team will be deployed to the field after a training programme on the COMESA Election observer principles and methodologies.
“persuant to an invitation by the government of Zambia, COMESA is deploying an election observer mission for the general elections to be held on August 12 2021”
“As part of its mission, the observer team will consult various electoral Stakeholders including political parties, security, the electoral commission of Zambia, civil society and the media” this is stated in the press release.
The observation process will be guided primarily by the constitution and the legal framework of the republic of Zambia.
Earlier the constitutional court ruled that Zambian President Edgar Lungu was unable to participate in the election to be held this coming month due to the fact that he had already exhausted his two terms.
No report has this publication received so far in regards to challenges during electoral campaigns ahead of the elections.
