Young Miners Foundation Partners Jomu Engineering

By Branton Matondo

Zimbabwe – Young Miners Foundation (YMF) has partnered with a Harare based engineering company in a bid to fabricate small scale mining equipment for prospective and seasoned miners in Midlands.

Jomu engineering is a company known for making steel products mainly used in the mining field.

This development came at a time when the country is targeting tonnes and tonnes of the yellow metal and most of it coming from small scale miners.

The relationship has been described as a way to facilitate efficiency gain for small scale miners and to create more opportunities in the mining industry.

Young Miners Foundation (YMF) Chief Executive Officer Payne Kupfuwa said that the move is all in all meant to target the small scale mining communities by manufacturing quality mining material. He said his organization has joined hands with Jomu Engineering to fabricate and tailor make small scale mining equipment which is inline with the expectations of young miners.

“Traditionally, we have been using poor machinery which was not compatible with our expected production and efficiency levels” he said.

YMF is also in the process of creating an incubation hub at Mangoro 24 mine in Mberengwa which will act as a development benchmark for small scale miners in Midlands.

YMF team is currently doing a small scale mining recruitment program in Mberengwa to find prospective mining personnel and equip Mberengwa and Midlands miners on information and creating partnerships.

“We are also looking forward to give small scale miners a chance to benefit from the Empowerbank starter pack initiative, a funding and development package that we would like to dispatch to Mberengwa, Shurugwi and Kwekwe.

He however advised all prospective small scale mining personnel to get vaccinated so as to reach a common goal.
Young Miners Foundation (YMF) was established in 2010 to advance and upscale youths entrepreneurial participation in mining enterprise, development and commercialisation.

They have engaged in training programmes with Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) and Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM).
