By Staff Reporter

Zanu-PF Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Politburo, Cde Lt Gen (Rtd) Dr. Engelbert A. Rugeje on Sunday met with the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and lnvestment Promotion, Hon Professor Mthuli Ncube, and his Deputy Minister the Hon Kuda David Mnangagwa, to discuss ways to enhance collaboration between the Party and the Ministry. Dr. Rugeje was accompanied by the ZANU PF Director for Economic Affairs Hon Anastancia Ndhlovu.
The meeting was held in Victoria Falls on the sidelines of the 56th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development from the whole continent 28 February to 5th March 2024.

Professor Ncube and Dr. Rugeje agreed on the need for a more inclusive budget that reflects the Party’s vision and priorities as espoused by President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030. The engagement saw an agreement being stitched to recognize that it is important to have ‘broader and more inclusive” consultations on economic policies in general and adequate pre-budget consultations which should start early enough for the Government to cover views of all stakeholders.
The development dovetails well with President Mnangagwa’s developmental philosophy of “Nyika Inovakwa nevene vayo/ llizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo”, brick by brick, leaving no-one and no place behind.

The ruling party’s Department of Economic Affairs will be visiting Provinces together with the Ministry of Finance to unpack the new Revenue measures and discuss ways of assisting SMEs to formalize their operations in order to cope better with the new revenue measures.

Women , youth, veterans of the liberation struggle, people with disabilities and other minority groups will be assisted to formalise their businesses as formalisation benefits both the Government and entreprenuers.

At the Victoria Falls meeting, Minister Ncube and the ruling party’s department of economic affairs reiterated the need for the 2024 National Budget to be implemented in a manner that seeks to strike a balance between macroeconomic stability, increased infrastructure development and improved livelihoods for the ordinary workers and citizens of our country for an improved quality of life as we move towards His Excellency President Dr. E.D Mnangagwa’s vision of an empowered upper middle income society before 2030.

In addition, the meeting was also aimed at strengthening the collaborative relationship between the Party and the Ministry aimed at ensuring that the people of Zimbabwe understand and benefits from the economic reforms and initiatives undertaken by the Government of Zimbabwe ably led by President Mnangagwa.

Dr. Rugeje congratulated His Excellency Dr. E.D Mnangagwa on hosting the UNECA summit with the Ministry of Finance as the lead Ministry. The summit’s success is no doubt beyond measure.
