A devastating overnight fire ravaged Mbare Musika market, leaving vendors distraught as they counted losses worth thousands of dollars.
The cause of the fire at Mbare Musika market is not exactly known. One of the eyewitnesses report that the blaze started suddenly, and despite swift response from firefighters and police, it spread rapidly, leaving no time for intervention. Unfortunately, everything was destroyed, and vendors suffered significant losses. Nothing was salvaged from this fire, leaving the affected with devastating financial and emotional consequences.
In an interview, one of the vendors revealed that they solely relied on selling at Mbare Musika to make a living. She further expressed that they had lost the money they normally banked at the market.
One of the vendors, Tinei Gwari, expressed deep concerns, stating that the fire marks the end of his business. His livelihood, which had enabled him to trade successfully in countries like Zambia and South Africa, was now ruined. Left with no direction, he was unsure of what to do next.
It was reported that some individuals were collecting goods, but their identities and storage locations remained unclear.
The recent fire at Mbare Musika, Harare’s largest market, has left hundreds of vendors in ruins. The blaze not only destroyed their livelihoods but also shattered their dreams. With no means to recover their losses, the affected traders are now begging for government assistance to revive their businesses.
