ZERA Aims To Introduce Regulations To Protect Business and Consumers

In response to the growing demand for solar energy solutions while dealing with climate change, Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority aims to introduce regulations that will protect the buyers and sellers of renewable energy product in Zimbabwe.

These regulations will ensure a secure and prosperous solar energy market and promoting sustainable development.

A student from Chinhoyi University’s Fuels and Energy Engineering program, Sophina Mbiza expressed heartfelt gratitude to Zera for establishing a consultation platform.

This platform shares draft amendments, enabling us to understand the proposed changes and contribute our insights and ideas for improvement.

She emphasized that the amendments will ensure only qualified professionals install solar systems, thereby promoting public safety and expertise in the industry.

Engineer Sauramba highlighted the potential implications of the regulations on solar energy adoption. He noted that installation requirements may create obstacles, particularly in light of the lengthy electrification process. Sauramba expressed concerns that limiting solar installations to highly skilled professionals could disadvantage rural communities, where semi-skilled workers are readily available to support the process.

Stanley Jesinau, a licensed electrician, stressed the need for a clear timeline to comply with Zera’s new solar training regulations. He requested that Zera provide guidance on the expected completion time for training programs, ensuring individuals can meet the regulatory requirements.

Zera’s regulations promises to safeguard public safety, promote industry excellence and support the Zimbabwe’s energy sources.
