In a powerful address at the Zimbabwe Building and Construction Association regional summit in Victoria Falls, Vice President Chiwenga emphasized that business as usual is no longer an option. He urged builders to seize the opportunities presented by bilateral agreements between member states and innovation through digital skills.
The construction industry, Vice President Chiwenga noted, is growing rapidly, and technology is advancing at an unprecedented pace. He encouraged builders to take advantage of these developments to drive growth and transformation in the region.
“There is no substitute for the unification of the region’s construction industry,” Vice President Chiwenga stressed. “Unification is a valuable panacea for unlocking our collective potential and reinforcing the empowerment of our SADC community.” He emphasized that a unified construction industry is essential for achieving the SADC Industrialization Agenda, which aims to transform the region into a vibrant and sustainable industrial hub.
Vice President Chiwenga also highlighted the importance of collaboration and working together to develop world-class infrastructure that supports industrial development, trade, and economic integration. He noted that a strong construction industry will stimulate innovation, stimulate local economies, and improve living standards for millions of people across the SADC region.
Looking to the future, Vice President Chiwenga emphasized the need for greater digital literacy and the adoption of clean energy. “Clean energy is no longer a luxury, but a necessity, and is the key to unlocking a sustainable future for our planet,” he said. He encouraged the adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce the region’s carbon footprint and promote sustainable development.
Vice President Chiwenga also highlighted the importance of cooperation on research and development of low-cost and environmentally sustainable energy sources. He called upon SADC member states to work together to achieve the goals outlined in the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap 2015-2063.
In conclusion, Vice President Chiwenga’s address emphasized the need for unity, collaboration, and innovation in the construction industry. He encouraged builders to seize the opportunities presented by technological advancements and bilateral agreements to drive growth and transformation in the region. By working together, SADC member states can achieve the goals outlined in the SADC Industrialization Agenda and create a brighter future for the region’s citizens.
