Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) has launched a capacity-building program aimed at enhancing the quality and quantity of macadamia nuts produced by farmers in Chipinge. The program, which was launched on March 19, 2025, targets lead farmers and extension officers from the 29 rural wards in the district.
Speaking at the launch, AMA Provincial Inspector, Rose Ruzario, indicated that imparting knowledge on quality macadamia farming practices to farmers is key in satisfying global markets.
“We have selected 2 lead persons from each ward out of Chipinge’s 600 macadamia nuts farmers. These are undergoing training and will subsequently train other farmers in their respective wards. AMA has engaged a consultant from South Africa, which is a key macadamia producer in our region.
“By tapping into the experiences of South African farmers, our farmers will be able to apply best practices and improve the quality and quantity of their produce,” she said.
The training program, which covers both theoretical and practical aspects of good macadamia management, has been designed to capacitate the farmers for the growing global demand for macadamia nuts.
AMA’s capacity-building program is a significant step towards enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of macadamia farmers in Chipinge. Macadamia nuts hectarage is also expanding in other areas such as Honde Valley, Rusape, Mutare and Nyanga.
