One of Zimbabwe’s sungura music legends Knowledge Kunenyati is alive.
This follows a fake death message which circulated on social on Sunday 11 July 2021 claiming that the superstar had passed on.
Post On Sunday managed to speak to the popular singer yesterday (12 July) who cleared the air by claiming that it was his father who had died instead.
“I want to make it clear to everyone that I am still alive and I am fit like a fiddle. It is unfortunate that my father is the one who died in Harare Central Hospital on Sunday. We are processing burial documents so that we can take his body to our rural home in Muzokomba in Buhera.
“I would like people to know that I am working on a new album which is expected to come out anytime soon. I am still in the music game and fans should look forward to the new offering,” he said.
Knowledge Kunenyati entered into the music scene when he joined a vibrant outfit named Kassongo Band which is now defunct but comprised mostly of liberation fighters such as who Rex Moto Moto, Mukoma Ketai Muchawaya, Joseph Muwema, Jack Ncube, Chenjerai and Marko Sibanda.
He later formed Muzokomba Movers which he named after his home area and it was during his time with this outfit that Kunenyati popularised Gofingo dance antics. Kunenyati left circular music when he devoted his life to God and become a gospel musician.
