A 35 year old woman was recently saved by passengers from another vehicle after carrying three suspects who purported to be travellers, Post On Sunday reports.
ZRP Midlands Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the unfortunate incident which occurred near Zororo business centre last week.
“The complainant, Mercy Makaita (35) of Njelele was driving a Toyota Passo from Gokwe to Kwekwe she was stopped by 2 suspects upon approaching Summerview bus stop. The two alleged carjackers, Simon Dhliwayo(14) and Trust Nyoni (name withheld) both of Village Mayoka under Chief Samambwa pretended to be in desperate need of transport to Kwekwe,” said Mahoko.
Before boarding the two accused quickly placed branches of trees in front of the vehicles and Dhliwayo produced a knife to Makaita threatening to stab her. He then forced the complainant to seat at the back of the car.
Mahoko went on to state that ,”One of the robbers, Nyoni turned and drove the vehicle towards Zvibhongashure compound were they picked the third suspect only known as Mbolatho. The suspects then drove back to Gokwe but before reaching Zororo business centre the vehicle went out of fuel,” he said.
Nyoni and Mbolatho searched for fuel while living Dhliwayo in guard of the complainant. On their way back they boarded a commuter omnibus and upon disembarking the complainant shouted for help to passengers who were aboard leading to the two suspects fleeing the scene.
The other suspect, Dhliwayo was apprehended by the public and the matter was reported to the police who attended the scene. Nyoni and Mbolatho are still at large.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to safeguard their motor vehicles against strangers.
“We urge members of the public to desist from carrying strangers in their vehicles as this puts them on the risk of being robbed.” added Mahoko.
