POLICE IN RUSAPE have arrested Opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa’s Aide for forgery.
Chishanga Mhaka was yesterday, Thursday October 21, 2021 arraigned before Rusape Magistrate, Mufaro Mangwiro, facing two counts in defiance of the Vehicle Registration and Licencing Act.
On the first charge, Mhaka is being charged with the crime of forgery of the registration mark or number as defined in section 44(2)(e) of the Vehicle Registration and Licencing Act Chapter 13.4 to which the charges read that on October 21, at the 160 km peg along Harare- Mutare road, Mhaka unlawfully drove a Toyota Fortuner registration number AEC 8562 which was affixed with a front registration number ACO 3818 alocated to a Mercedes Benz belonging to Nelson Chamisa.
On the second charge, Mhaka is being charged with the crime of no rear registration plate as defined in Section 11(2) of the Vehicle Licencing and Registration Regulations 1999 S.I 427/99 to which the charges read that on the same day Mhaka drove a Toyota Fortuner with registration number AEC 8562 without a rear registration plate knowing that it was unlawful.
Mhaka who was represented by Taurai Khupe of Khupe Law Chambers was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to November 4 on a ZWL $25 000 bail.
This publication however gathered that the opposition leader was on Masvingo and Manicaland tour where he faced myriad of challenges with Zanu pf members barring him and blocking his entourage from passing through to various towns and communities.
Post on Sunday has it that by nature and stature of Nelson Chamisa as a political leader his security would be compromised, party members told this publication that the replacement and use of registration plates was for security reasons following the previous attacks in the two provinces.
