The horrors of road death were recently relived in Zvishavane when a 4 year old girl was grimly hit by a car and died on the spot.
According to an official police statement, a girl identified as Tinevimbo Machili was hit by a car while crossing the road.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said, “A 4 year old baby girl died on the spot after she was hit by a vehicle along Gweru-Zvishavane road on January 20 2022 at about 1800 hours.
Pinduke Lovemore a male adult aged 39 years of Riverside, Gweru was driving a Nissan truck along Gweru –Zvishavane road towards Gweru.”
Further circumstances in the report indicate that while approaching the 82 kilometre peg he hit young Machili as she was crossing the road, she seriously sustained multiple injuries all over her body and died on the spot.
The matter was immediately reported to the police who attended scene and the body was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
“The vehicle was towed to Zvishavane Vehicle inspection department for inspection, ” added Mahoko.
“Police are appealing to drivers to exercise maximum caution and adhere to road traffic regulations when driving. We also urge parents to ensure that children are always accompanied by elders when crossing roads, “he said.
