In a shocking turn of events, Zambian authorities intercepted a vehicle carrying 29.9 kilograms of gold worth $2.3 million and $200,000 in cash, hidden in the door panels. The vehicle, with Zimbabwean license plates, was driven by two Chinese nationals, Zhao Changson and Zhao Yanjing, who claimed they were unaware of the hidden treasure.
The police acted swiftly on a tip-off about a suspicious Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, leading to the arrest of the duo. During interrogation, they denied knowledge of the gold and cash, but further investigation revealed they were involved in selling fencing wire in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The female passenger, Yanjing, claimed she had recently purchased the vehicle and was unaware of the hidden goods. However, the police are skeptical, and the investigation continues.
The gold and cash have been secured as evidence, and the incident raises questions about gold smuggling in the region. The police are working to uncover the truth behind this daring smuggling attempt.”
