A disturbing trend has emerged in Rusape District, with over five reported cases of murder and suicide in the past 30 days. This alarming spike has sparked widespread concern among residents and netizens, who are pointing to underlying social ills, marital problems, and economic struggles as contributing factors.
The recent incidents have left the community reeling, with many taking to social media to express their worries and call for urgent attention to address the root causes of these tragic events.
A young man, Tinashe Kudiwa, recently appeared before the Rusape Magistrate, charged with killing his older brother, Vincent Gwaure, in a drunken brawl. According to his statement, the two brothers had been drinking at a beer hall and got into a fight over money the younger brother had earned from mining. The altercation escalated, with the older brother allegedly choking the younger one, who then struck him on the back of the head, resulting in his death.
The accused claimed it was not intentional and that he had considered taking his own life before confessing to their aunt, who reported the incident to the police.
In a separate and equally disturbing case, a husband and wife took their own lives over infidelity issues. The wife had discovered her husband’s alleged extramarital affairs after his friend had exposed him. The couple had a heated argument, resulting in the wife walking out of the house in the middle of the night.
Tragically, the husband found his wife hanging from a mango tree near their home. Overcome with grief, he took a rope and hanged himself next to his wife.
