In Zimbabwe, a notable shift in consumer preferences has been observed, with many citizens, both young and old, opting for instant cereals over traditional long-prepared porridge with peanut butter. This trend is evident in the growing demand for Nestlé’s CEREVITA, a breakfast cereal that has become a staple in many Zimbabwean households.
CEREVITA’s popularity can be attributed to its convenience, nutritional value, and delicious taste. Made from whole grains that retain the bran, germ, and endosperm, CEREVITA is naturally rich in fiber, essential fats, antioxidants, magnesium, and carbohydrates. The cereal is also fortified with GRAINSMART, a smart combination of iron, vitamins, and minerals that contribute to the normal release of energy in the body.
To meet the growing demand for CEREVITA, Nestlé Zimbabwe has scaled up production, investing US$7 million in local manufacturing. The company has introduced new production infrastructure, including a state-of-the-art Roller Drier 4, which has increased production capacity by over 35%. This investment not only improves product availability but also strengthens Zimbabwe’s role as a regional cereal hub.
Nestlé’s investment in CEREVITA production is not just about meeting demand but also about ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and consistency. The company is committed to sustainable manufacturing practices, including energy efficiency, water savings, and waste reduction. Through its Virtuous Circle model, Nestlé also supports local sourcing and inclusion, partnering with over 350 Zimbabwean suppliers and 18 local farmers.
With CEREVITA now reaching beyond Zimbabwe’s borders into markets such as Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, Nestlé Zimbabwe is positioning the country as a regional breakfast cereal leader. For over 60 years, Nestlé has nourished Zimbabwean families, and through sustained investment in products like CEREVITA, the company remains committed to doing so for generations to come.
Nestlé’s investment in CEREVITA production has a positive impact on local communities, supporting 149 full-time employees, 268 casual workers, and training eight graduate trainees annually. The company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices and local sourcing also contributes to Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, promoting community wellbeing and environmental stewardship.
CEREVITA is available in five delicious variants, including corn and wheat, corn and banana, corn, cocoa and malt, Flakes with milk, and corn and sorghum. The cereal is a smart choice for families, providing a delicious and nutritious start to the day. With its convenient packaging and affordable price point, CEREVITA is an ideal breakfast option for busy families on-the-go.
