The atmosphere in the arts arena at Chancellor Primary School in Mutare on Friday, October 27, 2023 was tense as groups battled it out during the Manicaland Provincial Traditional Dance competitions.
Seven districts from Manicaland, being Nyanga, Makoni, Mutasa, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Buhera and Mutare battled out to see who was to represent the province at the national festival due Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
The teams performed the 2023 traditional dance set piece of Mhande for primary schools. There was stiff completion when the teams competed for the top gong. It was difficult to deduce who the winner was going to be.
It was during the long awaited time of results announcement that was emotional. Each district team held its breathe anticipating to qualify in the top three positions which would receive an accolade. Only the top team would proceed to represent Manicaland at national level.
Makoni did it!
The district collected the top gong. Makoni will represent Manicaland Province at national level in Bindura in traditional dance. It will be joined by Buhera and Mutare district which shall represent the province in percussion and choral disciplines respectively.
Go Manicaland go! Bring the national prize to the province.
